PROVENANCE: Dallas, Texas.
BUNHEAD: “I wanted to be a professional ballerina, but by 15, after a summer at A.B.T., I didn’t know if there would be a future for me in that.”
NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: At 18, Leigh left home for the Big Apple to model before pursuing a career in writing. “I preferred plot-based stories. My characters didn’t feel like real people that could walk off a page, so I decided to try an acting class.”
FULL CIRCLE: Her big break came in 2015 as a divisive babysitter on NBC’s mini-series The Slap. This month, she returns to her Texas roots as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader in Ang Lee’s screen adaptation of Ben Fountain’s war novel, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. “Even though I’m from Texas, being a cheerleader was never my dream. However, my character [Faison] is the all-American girl.”
